Louis (Otrogovka), Russia was founded on the 14th of June 1766 on the Wiesenseite of the Volga area in Russia.  At the time of it's founding there were 50 families consisting of 118 males and 119 females totaling 237 souls.  Click on the map to the left for a full view of the Volga area.  The colony is bordered by Mariental on one side and the former colony of Chasselois.  Prior to 1786 the Saratov Treasury Chamber gave them possession of the colony of Chasselois because it was destroyed by the Kirghiz, and most of the inhabitants moved here to Louis.
 

In 1798 there were a total of 163 males and 151 females with a total of 314 inhabitants comprising of 52 families.  Below is a list of heads of families from 1798 census.
