
GRAF, RUSSIA
Graf, Krutoyarovka, Russia was founded on June 10, 1766 with
a population of 40 families, 101 males and 77 females consisting of 178 souls.
1798 Census Information
This colony (click on the map to the left for a complete view) is located in the
district of the gubernia city of Saratov, 37 vests distant, on the meadow side (Wiesenseite)
of the Volga River, along Bolshoy Karaman River. Except for one family,
all the inhabitants in 1798 were of the Catholic faith, and that one is
Lutheran. There are 129 males, 124 females, totaling 253 souls in 47
families. They did not have a priest at this time. Small children
are taught reading, writing, and religion by a schoolmaster they choose, in his
own house, because there is no school building. As you can see from the
map the colony boarders the colonies of Mariental, Herzog, Rohleder and
Schaefer. Those living in the colony in 1798 are listed below.
